Radar DetectorRadar Detector We all speed now and then. Maybe we’re late for work, late for a meeting, late for a date, or maybe we’re just the kind of people that speed whether we’re late or not. But if there’s one thing you really don’t need when you’ve got three minutes to get to work, it’s a speeding ticket that takes half an hour to issue. Fortunately, there’s a perfectly legal (except in Virginia and Washington, D.C.) method of avoiding such hassles – radar detectors. Radar detectors worked by sensing the radio pulses sent out by speed traps and radar guns. In most cases, the police won’t bother turning off their speed guns and radar detectors alert you to their presence long before the radar guns actually track your vehicle and measures your speed. Sometimes, however, radar detectors don’t work: a wily police officer will keep his or her gun off until they’re sure you’re speeding – and then turn it on just in time to catch you. This, of course, means that sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw. If you’re lucky the police won’t be paying attention. If you’re not, they will, and you’ll get caught. Smart speeders have developed other methods for dealing with this – some detectors come with built in radar jammers that send a competing signal upon detecting a radar gun. This will usually foul an officer’s speed gun, preventing it from getting an accurate reading. Of course, no technology works perfectly. New speed detection technology is constantly being released, and new anti-detection technology is constantly being produced to combat it. Remember, a radar detector is no excuse for reckless driving – if you’re driving irresponsibly you’ll get pulled over whether you have forewarning or not. An excerpt For more information Click here
